Boy sailor Lionel L. Channing wore this uniform during the First World War. Canadian and Newfoundland sailors often served on Royal Navy ships during the war, as Channing's cap tally, or ribbon indicates. HMS Constance was a Cambrian class light cruiser that entered Royal Navy service in 1916.
