Boxing, HMCS Swansea
Boxing, HMCS Swansea

Two sailors box on the quarterdeck of the frigate HMCS Swansea during the Second World War.

Boxing had long been a popular sport and pastime for sailors and members of other military services, both informally as seen here, as well as in officially organized matches. The two are boxing on Swansea's quarterdeck, located in the after part of the ship and one of the few large open spaces aboard. A depth charge projector (right) and rails holding depth charges (left) are visible in the background.
