This city's small and sheltered natural harbour was a major naval base in both world wars.

This work by Ottawa-born artist and naval veteran Harold Beament, shows the busy port from Signal Hill, a rocky elevation overlooking its entrance. At the left (south) side of the harbour, note the escort vessels tied to the dock in double and triple rows.
