2009: Lobby

To mark the 150th anniversary of the origins of the Red Cross, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) commissioned five photographers from the VII Photo Agency to highlight the ongoing plight of civilians caught in the most violent corners of the world. The ICRC coordinates the efforts of national Red Cross and Red Crescent societies providing humanitarian aid, refuge and rehabilitation for civilians in conflict zones.

The exhibit offers a first-hand look at what war and armed violence do to people's lives, from the heartbreaking loneliness of an elderly mother enduring the loss of two sons as a result of the ongoing violence in Columbia to the unbridled joy of two brothers reunited after being separated by fighting in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

Our World At War builds upon the Canadian War Museum’s displays of post-Cold War conflict and underlines how these events continue to shape our world.

This exhibition was created by the International Committee of the Red Cross and is presented in partnership with the Museum.
