Snowshoe Into History

Snowshoe Into History

Discover how aboriginal technology was adapted to defend Canada during the War of 1812. Join us at the Canadian War Museum for a showshoe trek with historical commentary along the Ottawa River.

Step back in time to the winter of 1813 when members of the 104th Regiment of Foot marched over 1,000 kilometres in two months from New Brunswick to Kingston to help defend Canada from American invaders. Bring your own snowshoes or come along for a walk. Throughout the day, you can also participate in hands-on demonstrations of replica uniforms and equipment of the 19th century soldier within the Museum.
