Ottawa, Ontario, February 24, 2016 — The Canadian War Museum and the Canadian Museum of History are proud to host the 83rd Annual Conference of the Society for Military History, which will take place in Canada’s Capital Region from April 14 to 17, 2016. Held annually, the conference covers military history from the battlefields of Ancient Greece to the latest research in cyber warfare. It is one of the world’s top events for military historians and a certain draw for all those interested in history, heritage, security and current affairs.

The conference provides a platform for spirited discussions around a given theme. Under the theme Crossing Borders, Crossing Boundaries, this year’s event will feature more than 90 panel discussions on topics ranging from how the First World War affected the environment to the connection between culture and counter-insurgency. The conference will highlight the work of both graduate students and established military historians, and will include award presentations and several social gatherings, among them an opening reception at the Canadian War Museum and a closing gala banquet at the Canadian Museum of History.

“It is an honour for our Museums to be hosting this prestigious conference,” said Mark O’Neill, President and CEO of the Canadian War Museum and the Canadian Museum of History. “As museums devoted to history, we look forward to the insights that are sure to arise from this gathering of so many experts in the field of military history and scholarship.”

More than 500 delegates from nine countries have already registered for this international event, renowned for showcasing the best and brightest in cutting-edge military scholarship. The Canadian War Museum and the Canadian Museum of History welcome the opportunity to host the Society for Military History conference which, in history of the event, has been held outside the United States only twice before.

The Museums also gratefully acknowledge the generous support and contibutions of their Official Partners: the Embassy of the United States of America, Esprit de Corps (Media Partner), the Friends of the Canadian War Museum, the Australian High Commission and Know History.
