Fall programming at the Canadian War Museum

Ottawa, Ontario, September 20, 2011—From Culture Days to CBC 75th anniversary conferences and regular gallery programming, visitors will have a wide range of activities to choose from at the War Museum in October:

Culture Days Programming

Culture Days is a collaborative pan-Canadian volunteer movement to raise the awareness, accessibility, participation and engagement of all Canadians in the arts and cultural life of their communities.

Feeding an Army

How do soldiers get the nutrition they need? See the evolution of military rations over the past 150 years. Try a sample to compare with your favourite food.

Muskets that Made History

During Culture Days, the Canadian War Museum will bring out two reproductions of muskets used during the War of 1812. See for yourself the differences between the French Charleville musket and British Short Land Pattern musket, and learn when and how they would have been used in battle.

A series of four conferences celebrating CBC/Radio-Canada’s 75th anniversary presented by the Canadian War Museum (CWM) and the Canadian Museum of Civilization (CMC).

Join journalist James Cudmore (CBC), producer Bruno Bonamigo (Radio-Canada) and museum expert Dean Oliver (War Museum) as they talk about the role of the Canadian Forces at home with respect to security, sovereignty and emergency situations. Moderators: Lucy van Oldenbarneveld (CBC) and Michel Picard (Radio-Canada)

FOB DOC: Practising Medicine with the Canadian Army in Afghanistan

Captain Ray Wiss, MD will share his experiences practising medicine at forward operating bases (FOBs) in Afghanistan, close to the fighting.
