Last chance to see the exhibition Fighting in Flanders – Gas. Mud. Memory.

Ottawa, Ontario, April 15, 2015 — There are 11 days left to visit the critically acclaimed exhibition Fighting in Flanders – Gas. Mud. Memory. at the Canadian War Museum, closing on April 26. Don’t miss your final opportunity to experience this evocative exhibition, which explores the challenges faced by Canadian soldiers on European battlefields.

From the first use of chlorine gas at Ypres, to a Last Post ceremony still held today, Fighting in Flanders takes visitors on a journey through the battlefields of Belgium, combining past and present in a moving tableau of war and its aftermath.

Tens of thousands of people have visited this highly popular exhibition. Fighting in Flanders – Gas. Mud. Memory. shares the experiences of Canadian soldiers and Belgian citizens through wartime artifacts, works of art, personal stories, photographs, archival materials, audiovisual presentations, interactive elements, and more. It also delves into enduring memories of the First World War and highlights the iconic poem In Flanders Fields. Content is drawn from the War Museum’s own collections, as well as from other institutions in Canada, Australia and Europe.

After it closes at the War Museum, a travelling version of Fighting in Flanders will tour venues across Canada, beginning with the Guelph Civic Museum in Guelph, Ontario (August to November, 2015). A text-and-image version of the exhibition will begin its tour at the New Iceland Heritage Museum in Gimli, Manitoba (October 4 to December 5, 2015).

Fighting in Flanders – Gas. Mud. Memory. is one of a series of War Museum initiatives commemorating the centenary of the First World War, over the next few years. The exhibition was developed by the Canadian War Museum, in partnership with the Memorial Museum Passchendaele 1917, Belgium, and with the generous support of the E. W. Bickle Foundation.
