Visitor Code of Conduct

The Canadian War Museum is a national museum and is open to all. Respectful sharing of the space and resources ensures an enriching experience for all visitors. We ask that everyone adhere to the following guidelines while visiting the Museum:

  • Visitors are to refrain from shouting, running and disruptive behaviour. Individuals exhibiting any offensive, abusive or threatening language or behavior, or individuals suspected of being intoxicated or under the influence of drugs will be asked to leave the Museum.
  • Visitors are required to wear proper attire while on the Museum property. Shirts and shoes must be worn at all times.
  • To preserve the artifacts on display, visitors are not to touch or lean on any of the exhibits or displays.
  • Photography is permitted for personal use only, with hand-held equipment. Please exercise due care when taking close-up photographs of any exhibit or display. The use of tripods, monopods, etc… is not permitted unless pre-approval has been granted. Please present yourself at the Information Desk for more information and to submit requests. In some special exhibitions photography may not be permitted. Signs will be posted where photography restrictions apply.
  • Strollers are permitted in all galleries unless otherwise noted.
  • All children under the age of 12 must be accompanied by an individual 16 years or older.
  • Pets are not permitted in the Museum. Service animals are permitted upon presentation of Certification at the Information Desk upon arrival.
  • Eating or drinking is not permitted in any of the Museum galleries. Food services and seating are available on the main level in the Cafeteria.
  • The Museum is a smoke free building (this includes e-cigarettes).
  • The following items are not permitted in the Museums at any time:
    • Bicycles, scooters, tricycles, skate boards, roller / in-line skates;
    • Possessing drugs or alcohol;
    • Weapons of any type or other items deemed dangerous;
    • Any item prohibited under the Criminal Code of Canada.
