Fort Mackinac

The Native American War of 1812 began when Native Americans joined British regulars and Canadians in capturing the American outpost of Fort Mackinac, Michigan. British forces based in Mackinac would later support Native Americans in temporarily expelling Americans from the Upper Mississippi region.
