Wapahaska (Whitecap)

Service as British allies in the War of 1812 remains an important part of the Whitecap Dakota First Nation’s history. When the Whitecap First Nation came to Canada in 1862, Wapahaska, their chief, showed an alliance medal from the War of 1812 to British officials to remind them of his nation’s longstanding relationship with the Crown. This calendar commemorates the role of the Whitecap Dakota First Nation in the war.
