Description

The National War Monument in Ottawa is illustrated in foreground on one face, along with the statue Canada Bereft from the Canadian National Vimy Memorial in background. The reverse illustrates a soldier standing in the ‘Rest on Arms Reversed’ position as a mark of respect and/or mourning. The soldier is dressed for the chill of November to represent the weather of the last days of the war. On the background, one can see the V of victory and the maple leaves, a significant Canadian symbol.

Canadians recognize Remembrance Day, originally called Armistice Day, every 11 November at 11 a.m. It marks the end of hostilities during the First World War and an opportunity to remember all those who have served in the nation’s defence.
