Description

This British fighter was first flown in 1936. It was used by the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF), starting in 1941. It is one of the single-seat fighters most used by the Royal Air Force (RAF) and the Allies during the Second World War and on D-Day. The RCAF used it as a fighter, as a fighter-bomber, and for reconnaissance. The first Spitfire to fly in Canada was on loan from the RAF in 1940. It was used to test the first “G”-suit, a Canadian invention.
