- Inscription SALVAGE DEPARTMENT OF NATIONAL WAR SERVICES BULLETIN NO.95 OTTAWA, April 23, 1945 TO VOLUNTARY SALVAGE COMMITTEES: (Located at FORT WILLIAM, PORT ARTHUR, ARMSTRONG AND ALL POINTS EAST THEREOF) WARNING! CANADA CANNOT DO HER FULL PART IN FINISHING UP THE WAR UNLESS WE CONTINUE TO SALVAGE WASTE PAPER FAR TOO MUCH USED PAPER IS BURNED OR DESTROYED…IN SUCH AN EMERGENCY THIS VERGES ON SABOTAGE. It is the duty of every Citizen to salvage Waste Paper - and it is a work of the utmost war-time urgency Because Waste paper stocks are at an all time low. The flow of Waste Paper to the Mills must increased. Some mills have been compelled to operate on short time for lack of stock. Even after the European war ends, the demand for Waste Paper will continue. At this very moment, thousands of tons of death and destructions are being heaped upon Germany from the skies. As you read these words, Berlin itself is staggering under the weight of the greatest aerial onslaught in history. We may not pilot the plane that drops these bombs-we may be in our easy chair when Berlin is finally demolished-but, believe it or not, our waste paper is helping provide the material that makes this bombing possible! Right no, for every 500 pound bomb dropped on Germany, twelve pounds of waste paper are required. Waste paper is needed for the blockbusters and the earthquake bombs - for shell chases, ammunition containers, parachutes, fuses, helmet, maps, cartridges and hundreds of other war materials. It's up to us to provide those materials-to save every pound of waste paper we can-for Canada needs it badly. So get salvage minded-Clean out all cellars and attics and keep the bombs falling on Germany. BY TURNIN IN OUR WASTE PAPER WE ARE DOING TWO THINGS (1) We are helping the war effort by providing vital materials for the making of ammunition and supplies. (2) We are contributing to the welfare of the men and women in uniform, since the proceeds from the sale of salvage go for the comfort and entertainment of the armed forces. CANADA NEEDS 20,000 TONS OF WASTE PAPER EVERY MONTH J.F. McCALLUM, Acting National Director
