- Additional Information Communist forces in Korea used weapons and equipment obtained from the Soviet Union, or copied from Soviet designs. Though crude, this material was effective and reliable, and perfectly suited to the poorly educated conscripts of the North Korean and Chinese armies. Despite suffering heavy losses from UN artillery and air power, Communist ground forces were skilled and resilient. Their small unit tactics and field craft were often far superior to those of UN troops.
