- Additional Information Aviation burns were horrific. Plastic surgery techniques developed rapidly, helping victims lead more normal lives. Dr. Archibald McIndoe, a plastic surgeon, and Dr. Ross Tilley, the RCAF chief medical officer, pioneered a highly successful physical and emotional rehabilitation program, known as the Guinea Pig Club, for disfigured aircrew. Of the 650 men treated by this experimental program, 176 were Canadians.
