Additional Information
George Clark Ensor was born in County Armagh, Ireland, on 11 July 1880. He immigrated to Canada in 1906, settling in Vancouver, British Columbia.
Ensor enlisted in the 7th Canadian Infantry Battalion (1st British Columbia Regiment) at Valcartier Camp, Quebec, on 23 September 1914. He noted on his attestation paper that he had considerable military service. He had spent seven years with the Royal Irish Fusiliers and — after his arrival in Canada — two years in the militia as a member of the Vancouver-based 6th Regiment Duke of Connaught’s Own Rifles.
Ensor sailed to England with his battalion as part of the First Contingent of the Canadian Expeditionary Force on 3 October 1914. After training on Salisbury Plain for four months, the Contingent was shipped to France in February 1915. Ensor died on 28 April 1915 at the No. 18 Casualty Clearing Station, in Belgium, from wounds received during the Second Battle of Ypres.
George Clark Ensor is buried in Bailleul Communal Cemetery Extension, in France.
