- Additional Information This chapeau bras (literally "arm hat") belonged to an officer of the 1st U.S. Regiment of Artillery. This type of hat was tucked under the arm when not worn, hence its name. Part of the small pre-war United States Army, detachments of the 1st U.S. Artillery served along the Great Lakes in 1812 and 1813.
