- Caption CF-5 Freedom Fighter
- Additional Information Acquired in 1968, the CF-5, manufactured under license by Canadair, was a tough, light, manoeuvrable fighter that stayed in service for nearly 30 years. CF-5s were part of Canada's commitment to reinforce NATO forces in Norway in the event of war. In later years, they served as advanced training aircraft for CF-18 pilots. The "X" on this CF-5 indicates that it was used to test new or upgraded weapons and equipment. The two large cylinders under its wings are LAU-5003 rocket launchers, each of which carries up to 19 Canadian-designed CRV-7 air-to-ground rockets.
