Donald McLeod was born in Trowbridge, Ontario, on 2 January 1882.
A stonemason, he enlisted in the 68th Canadian Infantry Battalion in Regina, Saskatchewan, on 3 August 1915. By October 1915, McLeod was at West Sandling Camp, which was part of the Canadian military complex at Folkestone, Kent, England. He was transferred to the 48th Canadian Infantry Battalion and then to the 3rd Canadian Pioneer Battalion. McLeod was killed on 4 June 1916 during the Battle of Mount Sorrel (2–14 June 1916), while serving with the 3rd Canadian Pioneer Battalion as a combat engineer southeast of Zillebeke, Belgium. His body was lost.
Donald McLeod is commemorated on the Menin Gate Memorial in Ypres, Belgium.
