Millions of unexploded mines, rusting rockets, bombs, mortar rounds, and artillery shells litter the countryside, relics of more than 25 years of intermittent conflict. Explosives ordnance disposal is a major aspect of the international community's rebuilding effort. Canadian combat engineers in Kabul regularly collected, stockpiled, and disposed of deadly weapons with controlled demolitions.
