Moore, Alan (b. 1914)

Former Australian war artist Alan Moore at an exhibition of his Belsen paintings taken in Melbourne, Victoria, 1947, donated by the artist to the collection of the Australian War Memorial P00927.002

Moore studied at the National Gallery of Victoria School, winning the Grace Joel Prize in 1942. He also studied in Sydney with J.S. Watkins. He enlisted in the RAAF in 1942, and in 1943 was appointed an official war artist working in New Guinea, the Middle East and Europe. He depicted harrowing scenes at Belsen concentration camp in Germany after the liberation.
