Peake, Mervyn (1911-1968)

Invalided out of military service, Peake joined the Design, Poster and Visualising Group of the Ministry of Information in 1942. He approached the WAAC with subject ideas but was commissioned to paint a picture of a glass factory. During the war, his first two volumes of poetry were published. He also illustrated a number of books and started writing the first book of the Gormenghast trilogy, Titus Groan.
