Second World War
The Navy Ashore  - The Navy and the Home Front

The Royal Canadian Navy became a strong presence on Canada's home front during the Second World War. Naval imagery appeared in fundraising and propaganda materials, while Canadians built equipment for the navy, or were encouraged to support it through volunteer work.

What would you do if I quit?

A Canadian sailor urges industrial workers to keep at their jobs, asking what he would do if they quit.

After asking the obvious question - what Canadians would do if the sailor quit - the poster asks what the sailor would do if Canadians quit working, underlining the mutual dependence of the sailor and the worker. The Department of Munitions and Supply, responsible for co-ordinating Canadian industry during the Second World War, created and distributed this poster intended to encourage workers to remain at their jobs.
