Second World War
The Navy Ashore  - The Navy and the Home Front

The Royal Canadian Navy became a strong presence on Canada's home front during the Second World War. Naval imagery appeared in fundraising and propaganda materials, while Canadians built equipment for the navy, or were encouraged to support it through volunteer work.

The Canadian Navy Paint Book

This wartime children's paint book uses naval imagery, including a sailor, a destroyer, and the Royal Canadian Navy's White Ensign.

During the Second World War, the widespread use of war-related images affected many aspects of home front life, including children's toys. In addition to being used for patriotic and fundraising purposes, such images also helped sell those consumer products that were still available, such as this paint book.
