The Early Cold War
Rebuilding and Transformation

The Canadian navy's main Cold War mission was anti-submarine warfare, as it had been in the two world wars. It sought to build a force of ships, personnel, and facilities to fulfill this mission, as well as to pursue other national objectives like sovereignty protection.

Sea Cadet Jumper

Royal Canadian Sea Cadet Corps uniforms like this jumper followed Royal Canadian Navy patterns, but differed in details of badges and insignia.

On the right sleeve, a shoulder patch (top) identifies the wearer as being from Cornwall, Ontario. The trade badge for a bandsman (centre) is worn over a star for leadership, while at the bottom of the sleeve, badges identify the wearer's qualifications: emergency first aid (top), bugler (middle), and marksman (bottom). The jumper's left sleeve has a shoulder patch matching that on the left, and also bears the rank insignia for a Chief Petty Officer, Second Class (bottom).
