Model, HMCS Provider

This model depicts HMCS Provider, a ship specifically designed to refuel and resupply other Canadian naval vessels at sea.

Provider carried the necessary fuel, supplies, and equipment for other ships, and was equipped to make transfers in mid-ocean. Heavy transfer rigs (left and centre) and other equipment helped with the handling of refuelling hoses and the movement of supplies, while a Sea King helicopter on a landing pad (right) facilitated the transfer of equipment and personnel. Built at Davie Shipbuilding in Lauzon, Quebec, Provider entered Canadian naval service in 1963.
