"Measured" Contributions

Private bond drives and giving campaigns regularly advertised their progress to encourage further contributions and advertise the patriotism and service of their members. Local newspapers often tracked the progress of prominent employers and their departments, including those of Canadian or provincial government employees. In addition to direct contributions, workers could also contribute by automatic paycheque deductions.
