During the First and Second World Wars, Canadians were encouraged to grow and preserve their own fruits and vegetables. This helped to reduce demand for commercial food supplies, while making more food available to troops and Allies overseas.

Join gardening expert Celia Aceae from Urban Seedling for simple steps on how to create your own Victory Garden, and learn more about Canadian Victory Gardens during the Second World War from the War Museum’s Dr. Stacey Barker, Historian, Arts and Military History and Ingenium’s Molly McCullough, Assistant Curator, Agriculture, Food, and Textiles.
