Ernest Henry King was born in Ramsgate, Kent, England, on 28 March 1886. It is not known when he immigrated to Canada, but it was before December 1912. On 23 December of that year, he married Doris Adelaide Farmer in Portage la Prairie, Manitoba.

A police constable, King enlisted in the 45th Canadian Infantry Battalion (Manitoba) at Sewell Camp (later renamed Camp Hughes), in Manitoba, on 9 August 1915. He had previous military experience, having served in the 99th Manitoba Rangers.

After initial training in Canada, he sailed to England with the 45th Battalion aboard SS Lapland on 13 March 1916, arriving on 25 March 1916.

On 7 May 1916, King was transferred to the 29th Canadian Infantry Battalion (Vancouver). He joined that unit in France on 4 June 1916. Four months later to the day, King died at No. 2 General Hospital in Le Havre. He had been wounded on the Somme some days earlier.

Ernest Henry King is buried in Ste. Marie Cemetery, Le Havre, France.
