Commander Charles Anthony Law Medal Set
Commander Charles Anthony Law Medal Set

War artist Charles Anthony Law, the "Painting Commander", was also a decorated naval officer.

Operating motor torpedo boats in the English Channel took skill, courage, and endurance. High-speed combat with German "E" boats (large torpedo boats) was more like an aerial dog-fight then a battle between ships. Law was mentioned in dispatches for his work attacking German coastal convoys, and received the Distinguished Service Cross (left) for his actions during the Normandy landings. Despite the hardships of duty and the shock of losing close friends, Law remained in the navy after the war, retiring in 1966.
