Queen Elizabeth II Coronation Medal 1953

1953

The medal was awarded after 2 June 1953 to recognise the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II. The medal was meant to be a personal souvenir of the event and though there was no specific criteria it was awarded to recipients in Great Britain and the Commonwealth for community contribution. The recipients were normally selected at the local level and included state officials, government ministers and officials, Members of Parliament, mayors and municipal officials, members of the military forces and police services. All surviving recipients of the Victoria Cross and George Cross were also awarded this medal and 12,500 were awarded to Canadians.
