NIGHT FIGHTER INTERCEPTION
In 1944, an all-Canadian interception resulted in two German bombers being destroyed over the Anzio beachhead in Italy. A radar station commanded by William Lower of Toronto detected the enemy aircraft and dispatched a Beaufighter aircraft, navigated by James Ritchie of Belleville, Ontario, to intercept them. Both Canadians were decorated for their actions.
