MALTA MARAUDERS
German and Italian forces in North Africa received most of their supplies
by sea, through shipping lanes which passed close to the tiny, British-held
island of Malta. From here, radar-equipped aircraft directed Allied
submarines to likely targets in a highly-successful campaign that slowed
to a trickle the supply of fuel and war materiel needed by German General
Erwin Rommel's famous "Afrika Korps". Among those decorated for this
important work were two Canadians: Flying Officer Albert Glazer of Toronto,
and Leading Aircraftsman Lester Card of Calgary.
