BURMA BARGES
Allied forces sometimes mounted mobile radar stations on crude barges along the Burma coast to help direct aircraft to and from their targets. In 1945, one of these barges was struck by a sudden gale that knocked an airman overboard. A Canadian, Corporal William Kerr, jumped in and rescued him. Kerr later received the British Empire Medal for his bravery.
