BEHIND ENEMY LINES
British special forces, known as the "Chindits", penetrated deep behind enemy lines in 1942-1943 and disrupted the Japanese war effort by destroying their supply routes. The Chindits themselves were re-supplied by aircraft directed from the ground by a Canadian - Sergeant Neil Turnbull of Oakville, Ontario - using a portable radar homing beacon.
