D-DAY
Three floating radar stations, or Fighter Direction Tenders (FDTs), anchored off the D-Day beaches, helped direct Allied aircraft in the battles over Normandy. Within a month, German forces had sunk one of them with an aerial torpedo. Six of the nine radar technicians depicted here aboard another vessel, FDT 217, were Canadians.
