Description

This Japanese battlecruiser was ordered in 1917, but its construction was stopped by the Washington Naval Treaty, which was signed in the 1920s, to slow down the weapons race. The Imperial Japanese Navy decided to convert it into an aircraft carrier. It was launched in 1925 and participated in the attack against Pearl Harbor in 1941. It was put out of service by American fire in 1942.
