Scouts at War

In this photo of Boy Scouts at the Patriotic Fund's Ottawa headquarters in 1914, note the way in which event organizers have used pageantry and symbols to promote the cause. There are uniformed soldiers, bagpipers and Boy Scouts; drums and bugles; an imperial flag; and the maple leaf. Note also that patriotism could be good business: the company that made the sign has not missed an advertising opportunity.
