  1. The Salvation Army provided military personnel with quiet surroundings stocked with books, magazines, and writing paper. Also available were game rooms where off-duty personnel could unwind. This allowed the men and women who served Canada during wartime the opportunity, if only for a brief period, to reconnect with the home life they had left behind. Offering Canadians this 'touch of home' was the lasting legacy of the Salvation Army's war services.
