August at the Canadian War Museum
Ottawa, Ontario, July 15, 2011— The War Museum has something for everyone this month: from the stunning and poignant World Press Photo 11 to military vehicle demonstrations and ongoing activities related to our exhibition War and Medicine.
World Press Photo 11
August 5 to 28
Museum hours
Lobby
World Press Photo 11 presents prize-winning images of everyday life and headline news, including photographs captured during recent or ongoing conflicts. The latter build upon the Museum’s displays of post-Cold War conflict and underline how these events continue to shape our world.

Military Vehicle Demonstrations
August 20 and 21
11 a.m. and 1 p.m.
North Plaza / Demonstration Track
Did you know that some of the tanks and vehicles in the Museum’s collection are still operational? Hear the rumble of engines and witness history in motion at our demonstration of these vehicles. Talk to Museum staff and get up close to these powerful machines.

ONGOING SUMMER ACTIVITIES

Battlefield Medicine
August 2 to 14 and August 29 to September 11
10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Gallery 1
If a soldier was wounded in battle, would he survive a trip to the doctor? Learn how battlefield surgeons treated wounds in the nineteenth century and see the contents of their toolkit.
War and Nutrition
August 15 to 28
10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

It’s often said that an army marches on its stomach. But what if the army is far from home and nowhere near a supermarket? How do soldiers get the nutrition they need? See how military rations have evolved over the past 150 years. Try a sample to compare with your favourite food.
