Book Launch: For Our Old Comrades, The Story & Ephemera of the Vimy Pilgrimage, 1936

Ottawa, Ontario, July 20, 2011—The new book, For Our Old Comrades, The Story & Ephemera of the Vimy Pilgrimage, 1936, by author and TV host Norm Christie,  describes the journey of Canadian pilgrims to France to witness the unveiling of the incredible Vimy Memorial. The book also documents the pilgrims’ priceless mementos and souvenirs from this event, which honoured the Canadians who fought in the First World War.

In 1936, 6,200 war veterans and their families—the largest convoy to travel during peacetime— set sail for France to attend the unveiling of Canada’s grand war memorial on Vimy Ridge. At Vimy, the pilgrims were celebrated by royalty and received as returning heroes.

Come and listen to Norm Christie talk about the importance of the Vimy pilgrimage and the treasures of an overlooked part of Canadian history.
