Wilfred Ellis Durant was born in Chesterville, Ontario, on 20 January 1895. He was the son of William Asa and Lewella May Durant.

A school teacher, Durant enlisted in the University of Toronto Overseas Training Company on 12 March 1917. He was discharged from the company on 24 April 1917 in order to allow him to become a pilot in the Royal Flying Corps (later Royal Air Force).

Durant was killed in combat on 2 July 1918, while flying an S.E. 5a Scout in the vicinity of Saint-Omer, France.

Wilfred Ellis Durant is buried in Longuenesse (St. Omer) Souvenir Cemetery, in France.
