Frederick John Workman was born in Stroud, England, on 21 December 1894. He was the son of John and Mary Workman.

A railway clerk, Workman enlisted in the 35th Battery, Canadian Field Artillery, in Montréal, Quebec, on 12 January 1916. He was sent to England, arriving there on 12 March 1916, and was shipped to France on 14 June 1916. Workman’s unit later moved to Belgium.

Workman died of wounds at No. 23 Casualty Clearing Station on 12 May 1917. The circumstances of his wounding are currently unknown.

Frederick John Workman is buried in Lapugnoy Military Cemetery, in France.
