Sidney John Ware was born in Sutton, Surrey, England, on 16 April 1894. He immigrated to Canada in 1913.

A butcher, Ware enlisted in the 46th Canadian Infantry Battalion (South Saskatchewan), Canadian Expeditionary Force, in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, on 12 May 1915. He was later transferred to the 16th Canadian Infantry Battalion.

Ware was killed in action on the night of 8–9 October 1916, during his battalion’s ill-fated attempt to take Regina Trench. His body was lost.

Sidney John Ware is commemorated on the Canadian National Vimy Memorial, on Vimy Ridge, in France.
