Ravilious, Eric (1903-1942)

Ravilious trained at the Royal College of Art. Between the wars he established his reputation as a painter of watercolours and murals, a book illustrator in wood engraving and lithography, and a designer of transfer-ware pottery for Wedgwood. From 1940 he was an official war artist, first with the RN and then with the RAF , until his death in a flying accident off Iceland in 1942.
