Wilbert John Wilson was born in Toronto, Ontario, on 6 June 1892. He was the son of John A. and Ester Jane Wilson.

A labourer, Wilson enlisted in the 75th Canadian Infantry Battalion (Mississauga) in his hometown on 16 July 1915. He was transferred to the 60th Canadian Infantry Battalion (Canadien-Français) a month later.

Wilson was killed in action on 16 September 1916, at the Battle of Flers-Courcelette, which was part of the larger Battle of the Somme. His body was lost.

Wilbert John Wilson is commemorated on the Canadian National Vimy Memorial, on Vimy Ridge, in France.
