The Messerschmitt Me 262 was the first jet-powered fighter plane used in combat. Produced by Germany, it entered service in 1944 as an interceptor. Bomber and reconnaissance versions were also created. It was called Sturmvogel by German pilots, and among the Allies it was known as Turbo.
