Oshawana – Native American

As an Anishnaabe warrior in Tecumseh’s coalition, Oshawana embodies the struggle of Native Americans for their land and their identity.

Native Americans played a crucial role in the War of 1812 and many fought allied with the British. This alliance contributed to the successful defence of Canada, but failed to protect Native American territory.

Oshawana continued after the war to negotiate for Native American rights as an Ojibwa chief.
