Later Cold War (1969-1990)

Canada's navy changed and shrank in the latter part of the Cold War. The creation of the Canadian Forces in 1968 transformed the Royal Canadian Navy into Maritime Command, and by the late 1970s the navy faced "rust out" due to the gradual deterioration of its ships and equipment.
